  • Solspace Releases Repeet 2.0 and Template Inspector

January 22, 2010

A few weeks ago, we did a silent release of a new version of Brent Wilson’s Repeet plugin with improved performance and a few bug fixes. Today we are officially announcing it with the release of Repeet 2.0.1.  We’re also announcing the first module from our new developer Greg Ferrell called Template Inspector.

Repeet has been well known around the community as a solution for bringing event capabilities to ExpressionEngine using just the native custom weblog fields for setting the interval for the event and adding or removing certain dates.  Brent Wilson, one of Solspace’s favorite developers, wrote it independently years ago and it has grown in popularity. Late last Autumn, I talked with Brent about improving the plugin and starting to provide official support through Solspace.  And so, Solspace acquired the plugin and we wrote in a new Repeet Entries tag that greatly improves the performance and accuracy of the Repeet plugin.  Other improvements are also added, so please examine the change log.

...

Also last Autumn, Solspace began providing a Performance Evaluation service to help administrations of high traffic and complex sites improve their Templates and ExpressionEngine installations to get the best performance possible.  These Performance Evaluations have directly resulted in us building new modules, such as Template Morsels and Super Search.  Last month, I finally got one of my most wished for modules built by our new developer, Greg Ferrell.

Template Inspector adds a series of tabs to the bottom of the Edit Template screen with information about the Template currently being edited.  This allows one to see the Template, review the Tags in the template (with links to the EllisLab and Solspace documentation and control panels for those tags), examine the layers of Embeds, keep Notes, see Access permissions, and even review Preferences…all on the same page.  When one is building a new site or reviewing an unfamliar site for performance, this information is invaluable and having it all in one place for reviewing is a blessing of no small magnitude.  And, this is just the 1.0 version.  Kelsey is already bugging us for more abilities and features.

Enjoy.

Inspector is just brilliant. A firebug for templates. Greg did a great job.

Thank you so much!

Eeesh, people, don’t give him an Ego already!  I just started training him and now he’ll be completely unmanageable!
