Limit times of acronym output

I’m using the acronym module on my site to link to inner pages automatically.

Is it possible to limit an acronym linkage ( or infact anything the module does ) to only the first say 2 occurances of the acronym?

for instance consider this text

Hello Dolly, it’s nice to see you Dolly, What are you doing Dolly, where will you go Dolly.
—-

Dolly is the acronym, it will be silly to acronym it 4 times here - so can we limit to say only the first 2 times in a piece of text?

Styles

I know I’ve done this before, but I can’t remember how.

I want to change the style, and the cursor that’s used when an acronym is presented in a page. I can’t find how to do this. I know I’ve done it before though.

The output doesn’t provide any style, class, or id (which I thought was a little strange) but it does make it’s own, which is what i don’t understand because I can’t find where it’s doing that anywhere.

OK, I give up. I’ve tried formatting the file the same way as the export format, as a tab-delimited file, as a space and comma delimited file. Nothing works.

Hints?

Hi- I an trying to get acronym working.

I have copied the files to the folders as instructed.
Added the css: acronym { border-style: dashed; border-width: 0 0 1px 0; cursor: help; }
And clicked install on the module control panel
I see the Acronym list in the control panel so I am pretty sure that the module is installed.

Now when I go to this age I don’t see the acronym AOL underlined as described by the functionality of the acronym module

So here are some questions:
The module files did not come with a “images” folder as described
Do I have to put any code into the templates file?
Do I have to do anything in the body area of the blog post when I awnt the acronym to be underlined. Such as tags or anything

Installing Acronym

Two questions

From the installation instructions:

together with the ‘images’ folder into the /system/modules/acronym/ folder.

I didn’t see an “images” folder in the unpacked collection. I had two folders, “language” and “Modules” and two documents but no images. Do I have something amiss or was the package changed?

ALSO:

Enter the following into your css (stylesheet): acronym { border-style: dashed; border-width: 0 0 1px 0; cursor: help; }

Should this be a class or ID?

Acronym Module & Gallery Custom Fields

Is it currently possible for Acronym (version 1.5.1.) to work its magic on Gallery custom fields?

I have a template where I use Mark Hout’s multi-relation extension to pull in a set of images with each post, and each image has a caption associated with it in a custom field. These captions contain links that are frequently repeated, and when I looked for a way to only have to enter these links once it was suggested I use the Acronym module.

However, I can’t seem to get it to work (I can get it to work on the same entry within regular weblog fields). Could be me being less than smart, but perhaps this isn’t supported? If not, any chance it might become supported?

Optimized Acronym module

Hi Solspace,

I recently noticed my site’s performance was pretty bad. I activated some ExpressionEngine debug output and saw the Acronym module ran two queries for each exp:acronym tag being used in the templates.
So I had a look at the source code and made some modifications for better performance as advised in the ExpressionEngine developer performance guidelines at http://expressionengine.com/docs/development/guidelines/performance.html

You can get the optimized mod.acronym.php file in a zip archive at http://www.neverpanic.de/temp/mod_acronym.zip

I did a little benchmarking (the benchmark source code is still in the file, but commented - so if you want to run the benchmark on your own, go ahead):
On the page I tested, there were 9 calls to 1 acronym group, time elapsed for this with the original module 0.47111 seconds, time elapsed with my optimized module 0.06547 seconds.
That’s roughly a 86% drop.

I guess you’d probably want to update your module accordingly, so others can benefit from the optimizations aswell.

I would have notified you using the contact form, but I can’t attach PHP files and it seems the contact form blocks submissions with URLs (ever thought of using the freeform_module_validate_end hook in the Akismet extension for spam checking? I hacked that into my Akismet extension - it’s messy though).

Hi!

A client is looking for something like this, but one that will create a link to a definitions, (or something, even another weblog for definitions), more like a phrase recognition)

ie” Nappa Valley”
Becomes a link automatically linking to an entry/definition. Not much like Acronym, maybe more like tags?
Anything that can be made to do that?

Acronym 1.6.0

This module allows you to use acronyms in your content with specific behavior. An acronym is usually a letter combination symbolizing one or a few words. An example could be the acronym ‘EE’ for ‘ExpressionEngine’ or ‘AOL’ for ‘America Online’.

With the standard use of the module an acronym in your content that matches an acronym definition as defined in your list will be displayed underlined. When the user places the cursor over the acronym the cursor will transform into a question mark and the acronym description will appear in a title box.

P.S. I use the Acronym plugin also, it works correctly (but I don’t want to use FTP). So, that is not an issue connected with the system.
