Whilst browing around I noticed the forthcoming User and Friends modules

Both these modules sound really excellent - and well needed in EE too.

Is there any glimmer of a release date for either of these?
Will they be free or paid-for?

smile

Thanks guys and keep up the good work!

Tony,

Both of these modules are still a few weeks or even months away from a regular release. Consequently, there is no (projected) ETA. Given the development effort involved with the creation of these modules, they will almost certainly be for-pay. No pricing has been fixed yet, however.

The User module is available by request for $89.95. The Friends module will be some time in coming as it will quite comprehensive and may integrate with Facebook.

Send an email to support [at] solspace.com for the User module.

The User module is stable. Let me know if what you see in the documentation does not answer your questions and I will address them directly.

Wow.
Great to see the Users module out to buy, I’ve been mentioning it often on various forums and linking you guys up wink Due to a limited budget I’ve decided not to get Users but I’m gonna get Friends smile

Any rough release date or pricing for Friends?

Hey Tony,

It will take some time yet for us to have the Friends module ready. Thanks for checking in though.

I can’t find in the docs any info about email confirmation once a user registers (requiring the user to click a link to confirm they’re the person who registered).

Am I missing this part, or is the User module designed more for automatically assigning a member group upon registration, with no confirmation?

thanks,
Ken

Ken,

The User module should be respecting the preferences you have set in your member settings at the site level. So if you have the confirmation requirement set there, it should be picking it up. However, the User module can override that for you in some cases, namely when you indicate an alternative group to which someone should be assigned.

I guess I’m confused. What are you wanting to do specifically?

Sorry Mitchell,

Actually, I’m the one that’s confused. I’m not sure why this would even need to be in the docs. I’m getting a late start today, and only on first cup of coffee.

Thanks for the quick response!

Ken,

I’m still not convinced! ha ha smile

One thing about the User module and member registration is that there are so many permutations. I wonder if my code captures them all.

Anyway, let me know. You may find a bug or you may end up with a feature request.

Thanks Ken.

grin

Well, I still feel like I shouldn’t be asking for help yet, but I am anyway.

This is actually a very simple registration. The main reason I’m using this module is for the easy visual customization (worth the price for that alone, not to mention the other great features).

But, here is what is happening. I have the default member group for new registrations set to Pending, and I’ve set my EE preferences to “Self-activation via email.”

I’m not receiving any confirmation emails, and I just now noticed that I’m already logged in. So the registration form returned me to the appropriate Thank You page, but I’m logged in, even though I’m only a pending member.

I know I’m doing something wrong.

Thanks for any help!

Told you I shouldn’t be asking for help yet.

I was setting the group_id in the {exp:user:register} tag, and that was automatically putting me in that group, without requiring confirmation.

Ken,

It may not be documented well, but that is the behavior I’m expecting to see.

Currently the User module doesn’t integrate so closely with EE that it can set a member group once someone has responded to the confirmation email. So instead it assigns them straight away.
