Removing Avatar using user:edit…?

Very Impressed with the new User module so far, looking forward to its improvements and all. Great start so far.

A small question though, I’m using the {user:edit} block to setup a profile editing template. I’ve got everything pretty much working except for the ability for a user to “remove” an avatar. Is this possible?

Via the previous (sort of sloppy) member control panel of EE, you were able to click “REMOVE AVATAR” to have the current avatar removed. Is this functionality passed to the user module? And if so how do I invoke a form button to do so?

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks again and great work.

This feature is currently not yet a feature for the User Module… it will be however, in the future.

And to save you some trouble, hardcoding in the code from the “actual” Avatar member template won’t work wink

Any chances we’ll see something before the dreaded wait for 2.0? Just purchased this, and like what I see so far, but I feel that it’s gravely missing something if the proposed “Edit” function cannot essentially “edit” the avatars of member photos sections. Would love to hear the thoughts from you Solspace guys regarding this. I don’t know how much of an undertaking this would be, but I really feel like this is a logical addition that may have been overlooked or just simply not emphasized.

Nothing to knock on your module or anything, just hoping to extend it a bit up there. For me anyway, having this feature pretty much makes it feature complete for production usage on a blog site w/ some basic social community features. If you guys can do something about it, that’d be great. I really hope that for Expression Engine 2.0, they remove this ancient relic of a membership management system and go with something more modular and extensible that incorporates tagging. I can’t even comprehend why the member management system was built this way, and everything else was tag-emphasized to begin with!

Mr Dimsum,

Fair enough… smile
The User module is definately missing some “basic” functions… and by “basic” I mean commonly used…
To my understanding though, the Avatar/Photo removing part of the process is a larger undertaking.

It’s on the list to get done, but I cannot guarantee when it will be available. I have bumped up the priority though wink

I apologize for the inconvenience.

Not sure if the next release is coming sooner or later considering everyone’s anticipation for 2.0, but I wanted to let you guys know that I’m willing to commission $50 for the “removal” feature if the next build is to be coming up shortly and this happens to be high enough to be popped onto there. I have no idea how difficult coding this would be, so forgive me if that number seems a bit low or not generous.. It certainly wasn’t meant to be, but simply a gesture of gratitude since this is on the list of improvements to be made anyway. =P

Thanks again guys.. Seriously, that last thing makes it pretty much feature complete for production use on my site! :D

I’m sure this is something that could be handled with a plug-in… smile
