I noticed docs on this… does it exist?

I’m trying to figure out a way to notify the author of a question when it is answered.  Answers are handled via a SAEF.  Would this handle it?

Thanks,

Rick

The module does exist, but it is temporarily unavailable until we test it for ExpressionEngine 1.6.1 compatibility.
It should be available again in a few weeks.

As for your question about functionality, the Extension ONLY sends updates when the entry is Edited, either through the CP, or SAEF.
I’m assuming “answers” would be in comment form?

no, the answers are handled via a stand alone edit form.

A question is submitted via a SAEF and then the answers are entered via an SAEF with the use of form_helper.  So, it sounds like the entry update notification could be setup to notify upon update with the answer.  Can it be configured to notify the original poster of the question?

I believe it is free, but I will double-check, and ALSO, it’s urrently available on request, which comes “as is” as it has not been fully tested for compatibility with EE 1.6.1, etc
I will let you know…

I just purchased this extension, but it does not appear to be working as suggested above.  It is only sending a message to the address that I place in the “to email” settings field.  I don’t need anything going to that field, just to the author of the original entry.  It does not appear to send a message at all to the original author, much less a custom one.

Also, I wasn’t clear about this above, but I need this to work for one weblog, not the entire site.  I have not looked at the code yet, but would this be easy to configure?

Uh-oh spaghettio!

I just want to make sure I understand your situation with the Authors… did you want it to send a message to someone other than the original author as well?
As for it not sending an email to the author, I will look into that… it should though, of course.

Lastly, as per configuring per weblog.... makes sense… but it’s not a current feature.
Let me find out for you how easy this would be for Mitchell to implement…

I only really need it to send a message to the original author.

Here’s a detailed explaination of what I’m trying to accomplish.

Currently:
1.  member submits question via SAEF.
2.  when this entry is submitted several people are notified so that they can log in and answer the question via a Stand Alone Edit Form.

Desired outcome of entry update notification:
when question is answered (edited) via the Stand Alone Edit Form, I would like the system to email the author to notify them that the question has been answered and provide a link to the entry.  Possibly even include the answer in the email.

I also didn’t think about the fact that this is site wide.  This poses a big issue since we have many weblogs and ideally I would not want the authors getting notified whenever an edit was performed.  And I definitely wouldn’t want them getting notified with an email specific to the questions section.

hopefully that makes sense.  If not, let me know.

Will this allow me to have an email notification sent when a user updates their profile (phone number, email address, ___ custom field)?

No, it only makes notifications when entries are edited.

No, it only makes notifications when entries are edited.

Would any of your other tools enable me to do this, or is this something I can handle in EE without a third party download?

We do not have anything like this, and to my knowledge, I don’t believe there is anything like that currently available.
However, you could check: http://expressionengine.com/downloads/addons/
