I have an EE travel website looking to display photos from locations around the globe. I would like to be able to easily include photos in a weblog post, and also show slideshows of a particular place or event. I have hundreds and hundreds of photos, and I need some advice on how to set all this up, how to upload, how to tag/categorize, etc.
1. In order to use tags, should I have all the images in a single gallery, or multiple galleries? Does it matter?
2. What is the easiest way to include a photo from a gallery in a weblog post? Preferably an easy way for a non-technical user to find and include a photo in his/her post? And to pull in and/or change the caption for the image. Can this be done by some sort of tag based selection mechanism?
3. Is GX2 something I should look at? How would it help me organize and select pictures for weblog entries?
Quite a few question, but I have been unable to grasp the extent of what the gallery module is intended for from the documentation. Maybe I’m just dense?
Thanks in advance,
/Bo
1. It would not matter… personally, I’d go one gallery and don’t even have a “Gallery” section.. but that’s your call of course :D
2. The easiest way to include a photo from a gallery in a weblog post… Tags! By far… it’s SOOOOO clean and idiot proof as well. Basically, you’d want to upload each image (if you haven’t already of course) and Tag it with words, you can of course include captions as well. From there, when you create weblog posts, Tag them as well.
When using the Tag:Related loop in that template, it will automatically grab and show related images with that weblog post… no thinking required :D
3. GX2 is definitely something to consider! Basically, GX2 allows you to do several extra features, such as setting images as “related” to weblog posts, member profiles, comments, etc. In this case, yes, you could get by without Tag Module as you could designate images to entries, but that’s just it…. that image would only be associated with that single entry… maybe that’s what you want to do… maybe you want a pool of entries, and a pool of photos, and with their Tags, they ALL automatically find each other without you having to think too much
(it would also allow you to share photos easily amongst entries, once again, without any extra effort).
I’d say in this case, your primary benefit to using GX2 would be that you can implement a FRONT-END SAEF to upload photos, which would be much cleaner and user-friendly…. and you can add multiple photos at a time.
