I have looked in the documentation but I cannot find WHERE I have to create preferences on a weblog basis. Somehow I cannot find this anywhere. Can anyone help me?

Also, when I have harvested the tags, I read that I have to manually re-save every item. Is this true? I have roughly 10000 entries I have migrated from a custom cms and I really would have a problem trying to explain my customer that he has to pay me to open every entry just to resave it ....

To Create Preferences, go to the Manage Preferences tab in the Tag Module in the CP.

CP Home ›  Modules ›  Tag ›  Manage Preferences

You can select the custom field that contains the Tags from there.

Just be sure to change the Tag parsing preference to however your old Tags are strored.

From there, proceed to the Harvest tab:

CP Home ›  Modules ›  Tag ›  Harvest

Once you’ve ran the Harvest function, it will automatically pull all the Tags from the Preference you’ve created, and apply those Tags to each entry.

cool thanx. I didn’t notice the big green button that says ‘create preference’ on the top .....

How does the harvesting work, i.e. doe I have to prepare my data for it to work properly?

I am asking because I pointed the preference to a text field and now I have looooong tags, as opposed to words only ....

How are your “old” tags stored in the custom weblog field?

If so, make sure you set the Tag parsing preference to comma’s in this case.

Ah, ok. That is a misunderstanding, I don’t have old tags.

But I don’t want to create tags manually either - so I assumed that ‘harvest’ means that the add-on can do that for me ...

Yes, unfortunately it cannot decide which words to pluck from a description or paragraph of text and apply them as Tags.

Your only other option is to convert the Assigned Categories for the weblog entries into Tags…
