We’re using your awesome Favorites and Ratings modules to give users a way to “bookmark” and “rate and comment” on entries for their own private use and to share with friends/family that they allow to see their lists. It’s for a wedding site. Brides can cruise the site and pick favorite places and services (for their wedding) and then invite their friends/family to help them decide on which places to contact.

So because we’re not using the Ratings as a sitewide type of thing, it’s possible the users may want to adjust their Ratings and Comments on a particular hotel and move it up or down their list. They may also want to remove the ratings and comments on a particular entry altogether but keep the location in their “bookmarks” just in case.

I can find no discussion on the forums or in the docs as to how to do this? I can use EE’s query module but was hoping there was something I was missing in the docs. Did I?

Unfortunately an option to move Favorites up and down does not exist…

As for deleting ratings… here’s a good workaround: Rating 2.0 Quarantine Allowed - Documentation

It allows users to “Quarantine” ratings… for the use of moderating reviews. However, you could easily just use this to remove the rating. Just make sure that you set the Member group to be “Allowed” to “quarantine” reviews.

Thanks, Pie Man, for the quick reply. I had very quickly looked at the Quarantine docs but hadn’t thought about using it in that manner. I’ll give it a go.

As for “moving Favs up and down” I didn’t mean to say it like that. What I was meaning is, for example:

1. A bride adds a hotel to her “Favorites” along with several other hotels and wedding locations.
2. She Rates them based on the currently available information.
3. She then contacts all the hotels directly and a few are very responsive and a couple are not.
4. Based on her direct interaction with the hotels and their planning staff, she comes back to her Favorites list and “re-rates” (updates the ratings) for the different hotels.
5. She may even Delete some of the hotels from her Favorites list. But in doing so, based on my current understanding, the Ratings for those Favorites will NOT be deleted. They’ll remain in the system.

Not a huge deal, But this site sees 100,000 unique visitors a month and does well over 1 Million page views each month. So the number of Favorites and Ratings will quickly grow into the 6 and then 7 figures in terms of number of records. We’re constantly mindful of resources and allowing the members to delete their own Ratings, as well of those left by family and friends, is something we’ll be looking to implement via SQL.

For the time being, I’ll read up on the Quarantine and that will certainly work for several months.

Correct. The Ratings and Favorites have no real relation to each other.

If you figure out how to do the other stuff you’re after, it’d be interesting to see how you did it, if you don’t mind posting here

Certainly will do! The Solspace modules and plugins are awesome and worth many times the price in terms of saved development costs and time. Happy to post back here once it’s all working.

I’ve moved my Quarantine problems to it’s own thread here so it’s easier to find for those having same problem.
