Hi, MK, gang:

Over at EE, Leslie Camacho responded to a question thusly:

3. Paid subscription, preferably with changes if membership is not continued (paypal ok).

There isn’t a built-in subscription option in ExpressionEngine. However a third party developer, Solspace, does have a subscription solution. They can provide you with information on how it works, cost, etc…

I responded by saying that I’d rambled around here some, but was only able to find any mention of “subscribe” in the documentation, which says “coming soon.” Moreover, I didn’t see anything in the documentation on the soon-to-come Subscribe that said anything about paid subscriptions.  Leslie then asked if I’d emailed you or posted here, and of course I said I hadn’t; he responded that he didn’t “...think its released as a stand-alone paid module but rather as a module that is implemented on a per-job basis.”

SO, here I am, trying to find out “whassup with Subscribe,” and does it/will it support paid subscriptions?  Is there an implementation on a per-job basis that I could buy?

Thanks,

Hitch

Hitch,

Indeed this module does exist, though it has not yet been finalized and fully tested for resale yet. smile

It’s in “queue” to get released… after a couple other ones… smile

As far as accepting paid subscriptions… I’m not sure. I will find out though smile

Yes, I saw the documentation, and believed that it was “in the queue.” Leslie Camacho over at EE thought it was available privately, which is why I asked here.  I would appreciate any additional information, including input about paid subscription, which is really what I’m seeking...which would mean a mechanism/code that would be controlled by the webmaster based upon membership classes and payment.

EDITI would note, paid subscription is what EVERYONE is seeking, so if this product is still in development, you might want to consider adding this aspect, if you have not already. wink

Let me know, thanks.

Alright Hitch…

Thanks for waiting on me,,,

Bad News, and Good News… then a bit of Bad News again rasberry

The Subscription module allows you to choose your favorite content and see it across an EE site.
It falls short of the ability to charge for content, as it was never intended for that purpose.

The good news is, we have another module in the works: the Periodical module - which allows you to pay and buy a subscription to an EE site for a certain amount of time.

The final bad news is that neither are ready to go, as we’re swamped with other things, but they are on the list to get done. (probably within a couple months)
That poor Mitchell doesn’t sleep or eat, haha LOL

There’s too much opportunity! I’m really tempted to leak another possible module… ..... ....but I wont… tongue laugh

*phew!* *wipes sweat off forehead and hides excitement*

Awwww, the periodical module looks like it could be really good for a client of mine (a magazine publisher)- otherwise we’ll have to go down the amember route and that’s just far too much hassle (and like I have that much free time to get to learn it!). So if you guys could bump it up the list it would be sooooooooooooo very much appreciated! That and a pdf indexing module (to allow for an online magazine archive) and I would, quite literally, have your php babies.

Well, the trouble is weighing everything out… we have probably almost 10 nifty modules that are either not quite completed, or are in the works… it’s madness here LOL

Oh tell me about it. Aside from being systems admin (PC *And* Mac), I’m also web host, technical support, comic relief and occcasionally, graphic designer (which is actually my job). I flatly refuse to make the tea/coffee, though.

Would you be able to ballpark a release date as within 12 months? I know committing to anything is always a tricky thing, but I have to draft a proposal for this particular client, and any help would be appreciated! I’d much rather they spent the right amount of money with the right developers!

All those who want the Friends module say Aye. All those who want all the rest of the upcoming Solspace software say Boo!
