Just wanted to add that I’m experiencing the same issue:  Page doesn’t validate as XHTML Strict using EE 1.6.2 and Freeform 2.6.3 because the quotation marks are missing from certain IDs.

I’d love to know when it’s been fixed.

Hi, i was just building Freeform into a site tonight and spotted exactly the same issue and I’m on EE1.6.3 and FF 2.6.3. And I am very glad to see lots of people trying to write valid code!

Don’t know if this is related but in this EE-forum htread there is a problem with the SAEF displaying single quotes instead of double quotes around the id and class in exactly the same spot where the Freeform form is missing them. Coincidence?

We’ve now fixed it and were just about to release it to find that the Non-Breaking Space being converted into a weird character issue has now returned…

That weird character is not the classic “evil A” is it? This is an A with a strange symbol over the top of it.  i came across this years ago when it plagued my CMS at work. We eventually discovered that it was some sort of space put in, by WordPad I think - we used Notepad from that point onwards as it does not format, apparently.  This probably isn’t helping is it. lol.

In that case all you probably need do is replace all the spaces in the code for new spaces - sounds nuts doesn’t it! If you can identify where it’s happening then just whip that bit of code out and into a format free editor - such as as note pad (or TextEdit on the Mac set to plain text) and retype the spaces and paste it back into your code. i remember that we had an inline editor called Visual Formatter - java based - and with certain keyboard set ups it would add evil A’s when you typed a space in it.  Nightmare!
