I have a site using around 10 different weblogs - including blogs, events, library etc
However - I do not want all of them to make use of the “tags” module.
Is there any way I can conditionally hide “tags” on a per blog basis in the publish and edit panes?  I know it is possible to do this with other tabs/modules in the publish pane (trackbacks, options...or even the restrictedgroups module), not sure if there is a way to do it with tags?

Unfortunately, this is not possible yet. Most of our newer modules though, now have settings for this.
I’ll queue up this for a future release

Do you mean upgrading to a newer version for future releases? No
Or do you mean fixing the issue yourself for the time being? It might be… I know very little about PHP
