How do I delete a member with the User module?

Hoping there is a method integrated into the module but I don’t see any.

fogcity,

This is currently not possible with User.

However, if it helps any, you could create a “Deleted” member group that is hidden from throughout the site. With the User:Edit function, and logged in as Super Admin, you could then change the status of a member to “Deleted”.

You could leave it that way and archive “Deleted” members, or from time to time, log into the CP and delete all members in that group. smile

thanks for the reply.

i just tried setting it up as you suggest.

the problem with this approach is that users in the “Deleted” group can still log in.

how do i log them out automatically upon login?

i know how to create a logout LINK, but we cannot expect them to play nice and log themselves out by clicking it.

basically, from the user’s perspective i want this to operate just as if their account has been deleted—their login is rejected.
so if i’m not asking the right questions above, please keep the end goal in mind.

Ah… I see.. good point.

What you could do is restrict that Member group from seeing ANY/ALL of your templates, and be redirected to a different template with a message or something on it.
Just modify the Template Access privilages smile

I’ve already set it up so they’re restricted from the templates I don’t want them to see.

Also already directing them to a different template with a message.

Still need to actually log them out, so they don’t know they were ever actually logged in… and also so, if they are on a shared machine, that others can use it.

Couldn’t you make the page they’re redirected to have a Meta Redirect (but redirect to Log Out link)? smile

Of course, that would only log them out… and they’d know about it.

What if you had the Admin changing the Status to “Deleted” also change the password? smile

and couldnt they just use the “forgot password” facility to reset it?

Correct smile

That would only generate an email to the Member’s email requesting they click a confirmation link to reset it.

well, the users that would be “banning” users as we have discussed are not superadmins. so… changing password idea wont work…

Have you tried this with a Member Group with Super Admin privileges in this respect? smile
