Hello:

I’ve got three rather unrelated questions (I hope it’s not asking too many questions!), asked in order of importance.

1. How can we limit the number of times a non-registered member votes on a specific item? Can how do we limit one vote per session or one vote per IP address? Other tricks?

2. When ranking weblogs, I noticed that logs that have not been rated don’t get listed. How might I get non-rated weblogs listed under a section, say, called “Not Yet Rated”.

3. Is it possible to substitute in a different .gif for each vote, so that say, 1 star = shoes, 2 stars = bicycle, 3 stars = car, 4 stars = jet, and 5 stars= spaceship? Or is this really difficult to do. Basically, I’d like to make it extra creatively fun for visitors to vote on how fast something is, or something akin to that idea.

Your insights would be invaluable. Thank you, kindly!

I’m actually looking for a way for users to go on a rating spree of a series of designs. A way to pick a random entry limited only to the ones that the current user has not rated would be awesome.

3) Since you can always access the variable that represents the rating average and you can control the decimal precision, you can do what I do a lot and append that number to the end of an image name. So you can go crazy with that part.

1) At the moment there’s no IP based limiting of ratings. We’ll fold that in soon though.

2) Yeah, you and Scarletboi both want to get at those unrated blog entries. Crazy kids. You never know what people who actually use the software will come up with.

Regarding access to non-rated weblogs, here’s the quick rationale. Many new weblog entries might not have a rating yet, so readers would miss out on them. Or in my wife’s website (which I’m helping to design), she’d like to have a bunch of business ideas rated by users. Again, if the idea is new it wouldn’t have a rating and wouldn’t be listed. So, we’d actually like those ideas to show up in a special column that asks uses to rate them, while showing the already-rated ideas in ranked order in a different column.
