I’ve found that duplicating a site under the MSM in EE, tags are not carried over.  Is there a way around this?

This is currently a known issue.
However, there’s two ways of looking at this. Some may want all Tags shared, some may not.

What would be nice is a setting to bridge them…

I’ve come up with a different way of thinking on our needs. We are basically rolling out a whole new look and need to be able to view site A ( we have a lot of sites going at once) as it will look with it’s new template group while keeping site A live as site A. So, we’ve setup site B and setting the path.php file to pull site A’s content, which almost works. We can’t get site B to use an alternate template group, it keeps using site A’s group.

My early thinking was to duplicate the site and set the duplicated site up on the new group… but that’s not working as the tags do not copy over.

Well, I suppose you could export that part of the Database, and adjust the site ID’s manually… 

Thanks for your help Pie Man. Do you know when there may be a fix for the copying of tags? Maybe the next release?

Unfortunately I cannot say… like I said, this is not really a “bug”, though we are considering developing a tool to bridge and/or transfer Tags through sites.
It might not be until a while from now…

The ability to search across all sites with the Tag Suggest feature is now available with the new version of Tag 2.5
