Here’s a question I pose.
I’m having trouble with my authors not using the suggest feature. I have to go in to every single post and add the tags. They add a handful of relevant tags, but I want to use this as a way to replace categories. Doing this on the fly is simply fantastic.
Currently I put a block in so my authors can add tags right on the post page itself. (see the top of the attached image). This works ok. But the problem is the suggestion feature doesn’t work until after the post is made. That’s another step in the posting process and people simple won’t use it.
What I’d like to explore is taking the suggest form with ajax and replacing the tag form on the front page. I’m not concerned with people seeing it becaues I use an if statement and only admins can see this stuff anyway. But since it requires posting BEFORE using the suggest feature this would kill two birds with one stone because it would allow you to do the suggestions, add the results and post them to the article in one fell swoop.
Also, I snapped a screen of my control panel because I wanted to explain the form I’d like to see. I use Tiny MCE. Since it grabs ANY textarea it makes it so you can’t add tags the way it is out of the box. I changed the tags to use commas and changed the input element to a text input. That allows me to do it without removing TinyMCE.
I’d like to post that same exact form on the front page under each post.
Thoughts?
Also, I’d like to keep my name the same here as it is on the EE forums. Could someone change my display name to ‘JT Thompson’ please?
