Hiya,

I just purchased Tag 1.1.6 and I cannot for the life of me figure out what to do with it!! :-(

What I want to be able to do is to place tags (words) into a field [I created a preference in the modules preference page and chose the field for the weblog that I want to use] and then list these tags on the entries page so that when someone is looking at an entry they can click on one of the tags and they will be taken to a page that lists all the other entries that are tagged with the same word(s).

I just can’t seem to figure out which of the numerous script tags I should use to do what I want. I had heard on the EE forums that Tag 2.0 is actually much easier to set up and was wondering if it would be possible to get a copy of this to try out instead?

Alternatively any help to get me going with the module would also be great.

Thanks.

Best wishes,

Mark

Hiya,

Sorry to bump the post like this but I’m still not able to get this working as of yet and having paid I thought maybe I could get some support :-D

Cheers.

Best wishes,

Mark

P.S. If I can get hold of V2 to try out then I would be greatly appreciative.

Hey Mark,

We’ve been swamped this week with a few challenges. I apologize for the delay.

I’ll email Tag 2.0.9 right now.

The tag you want to use is exp:tag:tags. Have a look at that in the docs. I think it will make sense now that you can focus on that one function.

Mark,

You’re not the first to write and say, “Tag. Where do I start?” So let us know if you still feel lost.

It’s a very hectic month over here, but just holler.

Hi Mitchell,

Sorry for being a pain but I think I might be on a winner with this version. I am working my way through most of the tags for the module and can seem to get them all doing something or another which is good!

I do have one question at the moment though. When you enter a new EE entry you have the Tag tab at the top. If I click on that then you have the Suggest button, the field underneath and the large text-area on the right side of the page.

I’m not too sure what I am supposed to be doing here to get it working properly. At the moment I have placed a keyword into the large box on the right. Is this the right place to put the keywords or should I be placing them in the smaller field on the left? If it is the right-hand side large field then do I place more tags in here using commas or just place them on a new line or something else?

That would then leave the field on the left. When I click on the Suggest button all I get every single time is a notification message come up under the field saying No tag suggestions found or something like that.

Where exactly is the module supposed to get these tag suggestions from and do I need to do something to allow this to happen. I thought that once I had put in a few entries (or one even) and I started typing into the field that it would find tags like what I am typing that were already in the system or clicking on the Suggest button would suggest some to me based on some criteria of the entry or something?

Any help with getting this part to work would be fantastic thanks.

Best wishes,

Mark

P.S. Sorry to be a pain but I was also wondering if you had seen my post in the Lounge asking about your shopping cart on this site?

Thanks again,

Hey Mark,

You’re not being a pain. Your questions are perfectly sensible.

The field on the right is your tag field. Enter tags there. Separate them with a line break. Note that you can change the line break setting to commas or semicolons or whatever, but I like line breaks so that’s the default.

The suggest and browse functions are useful only when you have some tags in the system. Typing in the field browses the tag database for tags matching the letters as you type them. The suggest button looks through the text in your blog entry and matches against tags in the database, suggesting tags you’ve used before that might also apply here.

I should make a little video of this.

And sorry, I have not yet seen your question about the cart on Solspace. It’s powered by one our new modules, PayPalPro, which connects directly to PayPal to get you some action.

Cheers.

Hi Mitchell,

Thanks for the reply. I think I get it all now and I think I will leave it as needing line breaks too but that may change in time as someone else may be entering the tags on the site and they may prefer it another way but hopefully not as I think line-breaks makes it much easier to see what you have done and are doing.

With regards to the suggest as you type and suggest button feature I can’t get these to work at all. I now have around 12 tags in the database but if I go to publish a new entry and go to the tag tab and start typing one of the tags that I have already entered into another weblog entry they don’t show up. No matter what I type I just get the notification under the field that there are no matching tags. Also if I click on the suggest button I get nothing. I have some text in the body field that has some of the tags in it but it never suggests anything. If possible I would like to get this working so was wondering if there is something I might be missing there?

With regards to the shopping cart thanks for replying here to that. When you say it is a new module I couldn’t find it in the software section on your site. Is there any way that I could get a look at this or is it going to be a paid module? I would be very interested in it though even if it is a paid module so any info would be great.

Thanks again for everything and for making software for EE which if you excuse my language absolutely kicks ass!!

Best wishes,

Mark

Mark,

If you are browsing or looking for suggestion on tags that are already in the tag field, they will not show in the results area. So double check that.

As for the PayPalPro module, we offer it only where someone will become a client and allow us to install it for them. It’s rather complex and requires some planning and such. We are not actually at a point where we can do that yet.

Hi Mitchell,

Sorry I don’t think I am understanding what you mean by the suggestions part of the module. What I thought it was going to do is I create a new entry and place my description into say the body field. Next I could either press the suggestions button or start typing into the small field on the left in the tag tab under the suggestion button and it would suggest tags based on what is in the body field due to tags already stored in the system.

This is a brand new entry and so there are not any tags in the large box anyway so not too sure what it is all supposed to do. Any suggestions?

As to the PayPalPro module not a problem with all that. I think that I will probably just go down the pop-up PayPal cart route for the time being. Maybe you will get it sorted into a module that people can download at some point and then I can re-visit it at a later date.

Just wondering though you said that the module connects directly to PayPal? How exactly do you do that then as I thought that you had to use the Pop-up cart for PayPal due to their weird T&Cs;?
I had never come across an API for PayPal but maybe I am missing it somewhere?

Speak to you soon.

Best wishes,

Mark

Hi Mitchell,

Quick update! It’s all working now!! Found a post on the forums here about the admin panel URL needing to be set correctly in the general EE preferences. I thought it was as it was set to :

http://www.mysite.com/admin but I found that it needed to be http://www.mysite.com/admin/ with the trailing slash at the end.

Once I did this the tag suggest button and type-ahead feature now work absolutely perfectly!!!! :-D

Thank you for an excellent module!!

Best wishes,

Mark

P.S. Still wondering about the PayPal connectivity bit though!  wink

Thanks Mark,

When you were saying you were getting a no results message rather than just a spinning load icon I figured you had the correct settings already. Good catch!

Hi Mitchell,

Don’t ever believe that I have checked the obvious things as I certainly don’t!! :-D :-D
Feeling rather silly now!!! grin

I was wondering when you said about the PayPalPro module connecting directly to PayPal in the background. How is this possible? Is there an API for PayPal then? I thought that you had to use the PayPal shopping cart to be able to use their services. Thought I remembered reading something about it in their T&Cs;? I could definitely be wrong though.

If there is an API would you mind forwarding the link to me?

Thanks again for everything. It is very much appreciated.

Best wishes,

Mark

Mark,

You’re looking in PayPal under merchant services for PayPal Payments Pro.

Just like Mark I am having a heck of a time getting Tag 1.1.6 working. I want to setup a tag cloud and it is just not as straight forward as I need. Is there anyway I can get 2.0.9 to look at and see if it will work for me?  Thanks.
