OK, so I think we finally might have figured it out. I had an OLD copy of Cartthrob that we weren’t using anywhere but was installed and active in the backend and it was creating huge numbers of sessions for some reason. The sessions were building up so fast and then needing to be cleared so fast that it was causing the processor load on the servers.
With Cartthrob off things seems to be back to normal.
Sorry for bugging you on a weekend but was just grasping at straws trying to figure out what was wrong before the week started and our traffic picked up again.
