Hello, I am checking out the site to see if there is a module or something that can help me out.
I am working on a website for a client. For this client I made a Gallery and its possible to relate the entries with a weblog in a weblog custom field. This works reasonably well, but the list of images that they can choose from will become huge. That is not very user friendly. They also want to be able to relate more then one image to the entry. I think all of this should work in a more user friendly way. Does anyone have an idea if I should do this with the Tag module or the Extended gallery module?

To make it a little more clear what I need I will temporarily open the site.

If you click lees meer in the Funfair category you will find some thumbs. When they click it you go to a detail page with a larger version of the picture and a description that is entered in the weblog. On that page I want my client to be able to have more pictures.

Thans!

Dion,

It’s really your choice at this point… though each has their strong points smile

If you’re going about having a huge pool of images, and especially want some to overlap across entries, Tag is the way to go.
If you only need a few photos (or more) per weblog entry, and want no overlapping across entries, GX2 might be the way to go, as now with the GX Tab in the Publish/Edit page it makes things Super simple to “relate” photos to weblog entries. smile

Hi Pie Man,
Thanks for the reaction.
Hmmm. sounds interesting. I am still in doubt! lol. I always try to get the most flexible solution for my client. That way changes later on are easier to make. They will have approximately 600 pictures on their site. So I think the tag module is the way to go. Right?

Here’s a couple questions:

How do you plan to “manage” the data (posting new entries / photos through the Front End or Control Panel)?
Do you plan to have any of your photos “belong / show up” with more than one entry… as in overlapping?

Hi Pie man,

Right now it’s like this.
The pictures are uploaded with the gallery module. (from the CP).
After that there is published a new weblog entry and the uploaded picture will be related to the entry.

It’s not absolutely necessary to have the photo’s related to multiple entry’s. But… now I think of it I think they probably have use for relating pictures to multiple entry’s.

Before I arrived at solspace I was thinking to make two more relation fields so they can relate two extra photo’s from the gallery. But it would limit them to a total of three photo’s and there will be a huge list in the pull down menu. So I am looking for a better solution.

Hopefully this is more clear to you smile

Dion,

In this case, it makes absolutely sense to use the Tag Module wink
You would then use the Tag:Related_Gallery_Entries loop when displaying the photos along with the Entry in your templates smile
