I am doing a site for my 9 year old.  If I harvest tags, all is well, but if she puts tags in her {diary_tag} field, they are not updating either the main Tag listing under ‘Manage tags’ or the cloud in her sidebar.  If I then do a ‘Harvest’ for her, they appear.  If I type straight into the Tag tab, they appear straight away in the cloud.  I am used to the old version of Tag, and the Tag Tab is a new development on me - is that the best way to input them now?  In which case, is the tag field just for additional harvesting?  I am a little confused, as in my site, using a pre-tab version, I just put a tag in the designated field, submitted an entry and there it was in the cloud.  Can anyone clarify this for me, please?

If you’re using Tag 2.1, you should most definitely use the Tag Tab, otherwise, Tag will continue to work the way you describe
The harvesting is more for bringing your site up to par from either using Tag 1, or not using Tag before.

Tag 2 is a lot more feature rich, where it has the Tag Tab, where the Tags are to be added. Included is the Tag Suggest feature, where it looks at your content and determines and suggests which Tags you should add to your entry
