The Solspace Update Advisor accessory keeps you informed about updates available for your installed Solspace add-ons. It adds a tab to the bottom of your ExpressionEngine control panel that displays add-ons that have updates available for them, as well as other helpful things like currently installed Solspace Bridge version and Solspace resources links. Like all EE accessories, you can specify which pages this tab should show up on and for which member groups this should show up for.
Basically, the accessory retrieves a remote file containing software data and current versions from the Solspace site and compares it against currently installed Solspace software. All of the data is cached to eliminate any potential performance issues (calls to the Solspace site every 24 hours, and checks your ExpressionEngine install every 30 minutes).
A future version will include a way to manually refresh cached data, but is currently held up by a bug with ExpressionEngine 2.1.3+ (until then, you can uninstall/reinstall the accessory to manually refresh, or wait 30 minutes).
